- Congress' attending physician Dr. Brian Monahan has predicted that between 70 to 150 million people in the United States could eventually be infected with the novel coronavirus

- At the low end of the projection this would mean about 700,000 deaths with the virus' current mortality rate
- 'We really need to be careful with those kinds of predictions,' said Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
- As of Thursday, there are more than 1,700 cases and 41 deaths in the United States
- A top health official estimates Ohio alone has 100,000 undiagnosed cases
- The dramatically increasing outbreak has caused a state of emergency to be called in New York City where shoppers were scrambling for supplies on Thursday evening
- Highways and streets in the normally frantic city lay quiet at rush hour
- Washington D.C. is a ghost town as all public tours are suspended until the end of March
