Regardless of its exact strength, the system will spread heavy rain from the central Bahamas to South Florida into Monday.People hoping to spend Labor Day at the beaches of South Florida will likely need to adjust their plans. “Flights into and out of Miami and Fort Myers area airports could face delays and cancellations on Monday,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Faith Eherts said. Many who have read this blog for years know full well that I have had major concerns about our "infrastructure" right across North America and especially in the United States... There is right now literally tens of thousands of bridges and other major infrastructures that are in dire need of repair, and the vast majority have now fallen into neglect... Every single on of these are basically ticking time bombs and could possibly fail sometime in the near future causing serious casualties and loss of human life....
Now here we go with that major artery bridge collapse in Genoa, Italy where the Morandi Bridge linking two major Italian motorways collapsed yesterday during a peak traffic period, causing the destruction of the bridge itself and the deaths of some 39 people so far..... It has been a major tragedy for Italy, and at the moment the Italian government has called for a major investigation of this disaster.... 
Yes, there will be a LOT of finger pointing for this disaster.... And what I found today, thanks to Web News System website, at www.webnewsys.com, shows that some of the people responsible for the proper maintenance of that bridge were well aware for years now that it was in dire need of repair or replacement! This report shows that this bridge was indeed a "ticking time bomb" and the disaster that we just witnessed the other day was definitely going to occur sooner or later.... Here is that report for all to see for themselves, and I do have my own thoughts and comments to follow:

Dømt i Vestre Landsret i juli 2018 til at betale 8.627.286 kroner i manglende moms-afregning til statskassen. Dertil sagsomkostninger for 300.000 til Skatteministeriet. Sagen begyndte allerede i 2001. Gorm Lokdam kan ikke anke dommen til Højesteret, medmindre Procesbevillingsnævnet giver tilladelse til det.

Dømt i Højesteret (2011) til at betale 150.000 kroner i erstatning til Alfi Zitzmann for at bryde reglerne om god markedsføringsskik ved at importere termokander, der var efterligninger af den originale Alfi-termokande.

Dømt i Højesteret (2011) for krænkelse af ophavsretten til Global-knivserien jf. ophavsretslovens § 2. ved at have importeret 8.796 knive, der blev vurderet at være efterligninger. Bøde på 200.000 kr.

Vestre Landsret: Senere idømt fire måneders betinget fængsel i Vestre Landsret (2014) og en bøde på 400.000 kr. for at videresælge knivene, som han ellers også var blev dømt til at destruere.

Dømt i Østre Landsret (2011) til at betale knap 25.000 kr. i erstatning til brudepar, der fik ødelagt deres bryllup som følge af forsinkelser, uprofessionel betjening og uspiseligt kød.

Dømt i Vestre Landsret (2011) til at betale Aalborg Kommune 71.000 kr. i en sag om manglende betaling for bortskaffelse af skrald.

Dømt i Vestre Landsret (2009) til at betale 2 mio. kr til Skat i forbindelse med en sag, hvor Gorm Lokdam havde overført 15 mio. kroner til et selskab i Rumænien, som de danske skattemyndigheder mente var et lån, der skulle forrentes.

Tabt adskillige personaleretlige sager. Ligesom han pt har mindst en verserende sag. Fagbladet 3f lavede tilbage i 2009 en opgørelse om 11 faglige sager, som Gorm Lokdam havde tabt eller indgået forlig i.

In a new clip from the upcoming movie "UFO," releasing digitally and on DVD Sept. 4, characters discuss how aliens could use physical constants to navigate across space.

In the movie, Gillian Anderson (known for "The X Files") stars as a mathematics professor, and the other leads include Alex Sharp as a college student investigating UFO sightings near U.S. airports with his girlfriend (played by Ella Purnell), as an FBI agent (played by David Strathairn) pursues them. The film's science advisor (who has a cameo in this clip!) was Space.com columnist Paul Sutter.

The clip, embedded above, discusses a novel idea for space travel: If a fundamental constant of the universe called the fine structure constant was different in different locations, beings could use the changing constant to navigate through space.

The fine structure constant relates to the strength of the electromagnetic force between elementary particles. Research has at times suggested that this constant might vary across the universe — so space travelers could use it to triangulate their location, the characters discuss in the clip. That process could work similarly to how pulsar navigation would work, she adds. In that method, navigators would observe the regularly pulsing neutron stars to figure out their own locations. (A pulsar navigation experiment was recently testedon the International Space Station.)

While we're not sure exactly how navigation by fundamental constant fits in to the movie's suspenseful UFO-spotting premise, we're eager to find out.
