An off-duty police officer pulled a gun on an innocent man in California after accusing him of stealing from a convenience store.
Newly released footage of the incident, which took place earlier this year in Buena Park, shows 49-year-old Jose Arreola being held at gun point after the officer claimed he stole a pack of Mentos.
In an interview with the Orange County Register, Arreola said he is still affected by the officer’s brazen behavior.
“It’s been a month and I still can’t shake it,” Arreola said. “It was traumatic, the whole incident. I grew up in Santa Ana. I’ve been shot at before.”
Arreola added that the episode has dramatically altered his ability to trust law enforcement.
“He was so arrogant and cocky, because he holds a badge, because he’s a cop,” Arreola said. “We just feel like we can’t trust cops no more.”
“I’ve seen a lot of videos of cops mistreating people, but I never thought it would happen to me. I just feel disappointed.”
Buena Park Police Chief Corey Sianez took to Facebook to state that an investigation was currently underway.
“We were aware of this incident after it occurred and we immediately began conducting an administrative investigation into the conduct of the officer involved,” Sianez said.
Arreola has since retained an attorney and is seeking financial compensation from the Buena Park Police Department.
For a long time it was believed that cats and other animals could not see UV rays, but a study conducted by biologists at City University London is having scientists question this previous assumption.
In less than 24 hours, pro-Internet senators will move to force a vote to save net neutrality. After that, the vote will be imminent and could come as soon as next week. This is going to be nail-bitingly close, and we can’t afford to lose.
The FCC, at the behest of former Verizon lawyer Ajit Pai, voted to end net neutrality in December. Their decision would let companies like Comcast and Verizon dictate everything you can see and do online, controlling where you get information, how you listen to music, and which websites and apps you use.
But we only have a few short weeks left to convince the Senate and House to vote to overrule the FCC—meaning that we’re almost out of time to save net neutrality.
We already have 50 votes committed in the Senate, and we only need a simple majority to win. If we seize this moment right before the vote, there’s a chance that we could unlock a small landslide of Republican lawmakers breaking ranks to help save net neutrality.
But the closer we get to the vote, the more Verizon, Comcast, and AT&T are spending on lobbying, fake op-eds, misleading ads, and astroturf campaigns to try to make sure that doesn’t happen.
Big, prominent newspaper ads in local papers are cost-effective and impossible for these lawmakers to ignore. Each ad will highlight the number of residents and small businesses in that state that have spoken out in support of net neutrality, making the message even more powerful.
But the deadline to get them submitted in time to run before the vote is the end of the day today, and we still need raise the money to make it possible. Will you chip in?

Re: the May 4 letter to the editor "D-M was here before the anti-noise whiners."
We have lived near the Davis-Monthan flight path since 1976. We are used to aircraft sounds, from the F-4 years ago to today's A-35, F-16 and C-130, and don't whine about it. Since we moved here the Tucson metro area has quadrupled and is becoming a dense urban area, mainly near the flight path, quite different than when the base was first located beyond the edge of town.
Unlike the other aircraft, when F-35's pass over the sound is intolerable and inappropriate in an urban area. I recognize the economic benefit of D-M to Tucson, but remember that quality of life and property values are also important and have financial implications as well. The F-35 should be based elsewhere.

Stor USA-hvedestat brænder i varmen:
