A Norwegian law firm has filed a lawsuit against the Norwegian government to ensure that whistleblower Edward Snowden is allowed to travel to Oslo to pick up an award without having to face the risk of being extradited to the US.

The petition has been sent by the Schjodt law firm to Oslo City Court on behalf of Snowden and the Norwegian branch of the PEN writers, who awarded him the prestigious Ossietsky Prize and have sent him an invitation to pick it up in person on November 18. 

“We are doing this because it is legally and fundamentally important that Snowden will not be extradited to the US when he comes to Norway,” the Secretary General of PEN, Hege Newth Nouri, told the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation.

Men den norske regering sidder også med en vigtig nøgle til at beskytte Arktis, fordi det er den, der kan skabe den lovgivning, der kan frede området. Derfor vil vi gerne bede om din hjælp til at overbevise den norske miljøminister, Vidar Helgesen, om, hvor vigtigt, det er at beskytte de enestående havområder omkring Svalbard fra det destruktive fiskeri. Inden det er for sent.

Den 23. maj har det norske storting muligheden for at dømme bundtrawlerne ude af de sårbare områder en gang for alle og beskytte farvandet omkring Svalbard. Men det kræver, at de hører fra os.

Jensen: Putin sætter ind med nye kneb for at skabe uro i EU

Udenrigsministeren vil på møde torsdag opfordre flere lande til at gå med i indsats mod Rusland.

Når flygtninge fra Syrien pludselig kan finde tusinder af kilometer igennem Rusland til den nordlige grænse til Norge, så er det formentlig ikke tilfældigt. Ruslands præsident, Vladimir Putin, er i gang med en målrettet kampagne, der skal destabilisere EU - og særligt de baltiske lande er udsat. Sådan lyder det fra udenrigsminister Kristian Jensen (V), der torsdag rejser til Letland for at deltage i et fælles møde for udenrigsministrene fra de nordiske, baltiske og Visegrad-landene - Ungarn, Polen, Tjekkiet og Slovakiet.

Det sker med en skarp advarsel om Ruslands slet skjulte forsøg på at skabe uro og splittelse i Europa. En fremfærd, som de europæiske lande ifølge den danske udenrigsminister bliver nødt til at imødegå:

- Vi oplever et meget mere aggressivt Rusland, end vi har set tidligere. Rusland har hverken evnen eller økonomisk styrke til at lave en direkte konfrontation med Europa. Derfor bruger de nålestik, siger Kristian Jensen.
