Husk navnet: Neonikotinoider. Det er det stof, der dræber bierne. Hvorfor i alverden bliver det ikke forbudt?
De fleste har aldrig hørt om neonikotinoider. Det er en fejl. Det er et dødsensfarligt stof, der dræber bierne, og som burde forbydes med det samme.
Spørger vi en tilfældig dansker, hvordan det med bier og blomster hænger sammen, vil vi formentlig få at vide, at det handler om bestøvning. Hvis vi spørger samme dansker, hvad neonikotinoider er for en størrelse, vil pågældende formentlig blive lidt flakkende i blikket.
Det er ikke så underligt, for neonikotinoider er et pesticid, som benyttes i det konventionelle landbrug, og som indtil for nylig ikke har haft meget opmærksomhed omkring sig, men som nu trækkes ind i rampelyset grundet dets negative indvirkning på bestøverne.
I lyset af biernes klare tilbagegang i Europa og den voksende dokumentation for insektgiftens skadelige virkning på bier indførte EU allerede i 2013 et forbud mod tre neonikotinoidprodukter markedsført af kemikaliefabrikanterne Bayer og Syngenta. EU-forbuddet kunne dog omgås af medlemslande, hvis der i nødsituationer ikke er alternativer til de nævnte midler.
Landbrug & Fødevarer, der repræsenterer hovedparten af de danske landmænd, insisterer på, at deres medlemmer kan bruge de bidræbende sprøjtegifte ansvarligt og kræver derfor dispensation fra EU-forbuddet.
