$100bn BRICS currency pool kicks in - July 30, 2015

The agreement on the BRICS $100 billion currency reserve pool came into force Thursday. The fund was set up by the developing nations group to protect their national currencies from volatility in global markets.

"The arrangement is important not only because it provides the possibility to quickly obtain additional liquidity, but its very existence has a positive, stabilizing effect on the market. Similar agreements created by other countries (for example, the European Stability Mechanism) continue to be in force and fulfill their functions,” Russia’s BRICS group representative told TASS.

There is a number of technical documents to be signed during the next meeting of the BRICS Central Bank Governors and Finance Ministers, the official added.

Currently there are “no signals of an immediate need of the pool’s funds from BRICS partners,” according to the official.

The agreement was ratified by Russia’s upper house of Parliament and by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

China will make the biggest contribution of $41 billion to the fund. Russia, Brazil and India will donate $18 billion each, while South Africa’s investment will be $5 billion.

Last July, the group of five BRICS countries (Russia, Brazil, India, China and South Africa) agreed to a reserve currency pool worth over $100 billion as well as the $100 billion BRICS Development Bank.

Global Derivatives: $1.5 Quadrillion Time Bomb - July 30, 2015

When investing becomes gambling, bad endings follow. The next credit crunch could make 2008-09 look mild by comparison. Bank of International Settlements(BIS) data show around $700 trillion in global derivatives. 

Along with credit default swaps and other exotic instruments, the total notional derivatives value is about $1.5 quadrillion – about 20% more than in 2008, beyond what anyone can conceive, let alone control if unexpected turmoil strikes.

The late Bob Chapman predicted it. So does Paul Craig Roberts. It could “destroy Western civilization,” he believes. Financial deregulation turned Wall Street into a casino with no rules except unrestrained making money. Catastrophic failure awaits. It’s just a matter of time.

Ellen Brown calls the “derivatives casino…a last-ditch attempt to prop up a private pyramid scheme” – slowly crumbling under its own weight.

For years, Warren Buffett called derivatives “financial time bombs” – for economies and ordinary people.

Unless collateralized or guaranteed, their worth depends on the creditworthiness of counter-parties. Earnings on derivatives are “wildly overstated,” Buffett explains – because they’re “based on estimates whose inaccuracy may not be exposed for many years.”

When corporate bosses ask financial executives how profits look in any quarter, they, in turn, ask how much do you want, then manipulate things to oblige when told.

Since 2008, too-big-to-fail banks consolidated to much greater size than ever. They’re financial and political powerhouses controlling world economies to their own advantage.

Civilization’s only hope is smashing them – dismantling them into small, impotent pieces, or ideally putting money back in public hands where it belongs.

It’s too important to be privately controlled. Financial predators entrap small/weak nations into unrepayable debt peonage like Greece, bleed them dry, and thirdworldize developed ones into dystopian backwaters – while they grow richer and more powerful than ever ahead of the whole corrupt system going bust, decimating billions worldwide in greater human misery than already.

Washington Post editors support what demands condemnation. Don’t worry, be happy, they say. On July 23, they headlined “The Fed’s stance on banks and capital makes good sense.”

Who Was Really Paid to Bury GMO Labeling via the DARK Act?

Want to know where the dirty money is which is helping to make GMO labeling illegal?

Shockingly, or perhaps not to the individuals who have been observing the biotech charade, house members who voted to keep the public from knowing what is in their food in the latest land-slide win for Big Food supporters of The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015 (known to its critics as the DARK (Deny Americans the Right to Know Act)) were paid three times as much as representatives who voted to give us the right to label or ban GMO foods.

It seems odd that the bill would float through Congress so easily with a 275 to 150 vote when so many Americans have expressed a wish to have their food labeled. The Center for Food safety says that 93% of Americans want their food labeled if it contains GM ingredients. And that is just one of many surveys showing similar results:

Surveys repeatedly show that 80 percent to 95 percent of people want foods that contain genetically modified organisms to be labeled (in the least). Here is a simple breakdown of some reported polls on consumer demand for GMO labeling:

• The New York Times: 93% found to be in support of labeling GMOs

• MSNBC: 96% in support

• Reuters/NPR: 93% in support of full labeling

• Washington Post: 95% in support of full labeling

• Consumer Reports: 95% agree GM animals should be labeled

• ABC News: 93% want federal GM labeling mandate

To: Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Copenhagen, Denmark

Dear Prime Minister Rasmussen,

Last year I had the opportunity to visit the beautiful and enchanting Faroe Islands. It is a place out of a fairy tale with lovely green mountains, sparkling clean streams with crystal clear waterfalls, sometimes held in the ephemeral embrace of a low-flowing clouds. The houses are inviting and the people are friendly.

But like many fairy tales, behind the beauty and the serenity there lurks a dark shadow that lies behind the smiles.

I am of course referring to the Grind.

Mr. Prime Minister, I cannot see any justification for this horrific slaughter, this infliction of such agonizing cruelty and the transformation of such beautiful, intelligent and sociable animals like Pilot whales and Dolphins.

There is no necessity for the meat of these gentle creatures. The Faroese are a wealthy community of islands. There can be no justification for the great nation of Denmark to send warships to these islands to defend the whale killers from non-violent opposition to the killing.

 
Eating the whale meat even puts the citizens themselves in danger and this is an egregious offense when such toxic food is fed to children who have not been given any choice of what they must consume.

As we evolve into the 21st Century, humanity must put away traditions based on cruelty and death. This Grind is archaic, barbaric and a disgrace not only to Denmark but to all of humanity.

I would like to respectfully request that Denmark refrain from providing support to the Faroese both in subsidies and with military assistance.

The killing of whales is illegal under the laws of the European Union and thus illegal under the laws of Denmark so the question must be asked, why is the Danish Navy at a huge cost to Danish tax-payers protecting the slaughter of whales in the Faroe Islands.
