USA vil skabe hærens sjette værn: Rumhæren


Pentagon er klar med konkrete tiltag for at skabe et værn for krigsførelse i rummet, siger Mike Pence.

USA's militær skal have et sjette militært værn, som skal håndtere militære konflikter i rummet, siger USA's vicepræsident, Mike Pence.

Ifølge vicepræsidenten er ambitionen, at dette værn skal øge USA's militære muskler.

- Som præsident Trump har sagt: Det er ikke nok at have en amerikansk tilstedeværelse i rummet. Vi skal have en amerikanske dominans i rummet, siger Mike Pence.

Ifølge Pence har USA's forsvarsministerium, Pentagon, allerede planer klar for, hvordan en sådan styrke kan oprettes.

Pence oplyser, at lovgivning, der vil oprette det sjette værn i 2020, er på vej. Der vil blive sat otte milliarder dollar - svarende til 58 milliarder kroner - over fem år til "sikkerhed i rummet", forklarer Pence.

- Tiden er inde til at skrive det næste kapitel i vores væbnedes styrkers historie. At forberede den næste slagmark hvor USA's bedste og modigste vil blive nødt til at afskrække og besejre en ny generation af trusler mod vores folk og nation, siger Mike Pence.

Han henviser til trusler fra Rusland og Kina som årsag til, at det er nødvendigt at forstærke USA's militære formåen i rummet.
