The Norwegian government has confirmed plans to boost defenses at the Svalbard Global Seed Vault after reports of flooding at the facility prompted panic that the world’s future food supply could be destroyed.

The Guardian reported Friday that the arctic stronghold, built to preserve the world’s crop supply in the event of global disaster, had flooded after permafrost melted and sent water “gushing into the entrance tunnel.”
